CRICKET CONTROL

EDEN PARK WICKETS CHANGE OF SOIL ADVOCATED FAST BOWLERS HANDICAPPED The opinion that tho wickets composed of New Lynn soil fit Eden Parle were detrimental to the game was expressed by several members of the management committee of the Auckland Cricket Association at its meeting last evening. Representative players who are at present practising on a wicket formed from Port Albert soil recommended that a move should be made to revert back to wickets of that soil next season. They stated that fast bowlers received no assistance from the New Lynn soil and had to pitch their deliveries short tp obtain any measure of success. From a batsman's point of view the Port Albert soil was also preferable, as it was stated that the ball came through better. Another aspect mentioned was that young player.* who were being coached on tho practice wicket of Port Albert soil were fiiading their tuition useless when they took part in club games on the wickets of New Lynn soil.

Mr. E. E. Nalder, who presided in tho absence of the chairman, Mr. W. R. Fee, expressed tho opinion that all the wickets should bo uniform, and it was agreed to place the matter in tho hands of Messrs. W. R. Fee. N. C. Snedden and A. J. Postles. who were requested to arrange for Port Albert wickets to be laid down next season. Mr. Nalder reported on the excellent stato of the wickets and outfields at Waikaraka Park, Onehunga, and suggested that a senior game should be played on the No. 1 wicket, which has a boundary of 'JO yards. It was agreed to stago tho Eden-Parnell game, which commences next Saturday, at Onehunga. Ihe secretary, Mr. E. J. Price, intimated that he was making full use of the ground ami that seven wickets would be used by tho association next Saturday. Mr. Nalder stated that in an interview with the parks committee of the City Council ho had been informed that improvements would be made within the next few weeks to the wickets at Walker Park, which had been the subject of adverse criticism at the last meeting. The awarding of the bat presented by Mr. F. W. Matthews for tile first century of the season was deferred for another week, as further claims have been .submitted. It was agreed that the association should stage its annual Conn try Week tourney at Christmas, and the arrangements were, left in the hands of iho Country Week committee. Under the association's scheme of affiliation between clubs in tho same or adjacent districts, whereby an opportunity is given to promising players of a junior club to be promoted to the senior club, Pnpatoetoe was granted its request to be associated with Middlemore.
