GOVERNMENT'S WORD AND ACT
Sir, —The reply of the Prime Minister to Mr. Goodfellow's interview, which contained facts as well as truth, as being "beneath contempt," seems neither justified nor appropriate. Mr. Savage has told us on many occasions that "everything was .'ill right," "there was nothing to be afraid of." and "that no ono was going to be had." If wliat he says is correct, they why arc there many people in New Zealand with means at their disposal, who are prisoners in their own country? Why had Mr. Nash to go Home to try to straighten out our financial difficulties? Why are many of our primary productions decreasing in quantity? Why are the dairy farmers dissatisfied with the guaranteed price? Why have many persons who have built up a legitimate importing business in many instances been forced out or their trade greatly curtailed through, no fault of their own ? . . These are a few of many things which force us to the conclusion that tho Prime Minister's assertions quoted above are hardly in keeping with what is actually taking place. When will the people of New Zealand wake up to tho unfortunate position we are at present in ? It is sincerely hoped they will do so before it is too late and before we have reached tho precipice of financial chaos and disaster. The most obvious deduction from tho foregoing facts must be that Ave have allowed our standard of living to outrun our present income. Okere Falls. W.B.L.
