NAVAL RESERVISTS
Sir, —When war was declared, all naval reservists were called up, and many were placed on shore duties. These men, according to naval custom, are required to ration themselves, and yet are paid just the same as men in camp, that is, 7s per day. If Mr. Semple's huge army of gentlemen—find I have not heard of any camps closing down through men enlisting to fight for their country—are worth £4 10s per week, how much are those worth who are prepared to do their share of winning the war? Perhaps the Minister of Defence will tell us why these men (skilled telegraphists) arc treated in this manner —"Seven bob a day and feed yourself." And I, with thousands of others, fought in the last war for a square deal and freedom, while the members of the Labour Party at that time did what? Ex-Dink, 1915-1919.
