NEW RADIO STATION
Sir.—lt is apparent the Government intend to carry on the project of erecting a new building to house IZB, in spite of the protest against it. We in the country have never been able to listen to IZB decently on account of the interference, so what wo have never had we shall not miss. If the money has to be spent, spend some of it in tracking down the interference. Past Bicing Disgcstkd.
Sir, —I am one of the thousands who are astounded and disgusted at the proposal of the Government to spend £70,000 on the construction of a new studio for IZB. Even in normal times such a large capital outlay on a supposedly commercial enterprise would cause comment, but under existing circumstances there seems no justification whatever. '1 he alacrity with which the Government has decided to comply with the standards of the Health Department is amazing, and the solicitude shown for the employees of IZB is most touching. But if 1. remember rightly, has not the attention of the Government been drawn to the lack of facilities existing at the Auckland Hospital? And, furthermore, did not the Prime Minister once promise that when funds became availably the first public building to be rebuilt in Auckland would be St. Helens Hospital? However, it seems that a strange insistence on the part of the Health Department has prevailed, and tlip physical wellbeing of IZB's employees must take precedence to that of the inmates of the Auckland Hospital or the babies at St. Helens.
