GAOL FOR MOTORIST
INTOXICATED IN CAR TWO WEEKS' IMPRISONMENT A pica of guilty to a charge of being in a stato of intoxication in charge of a motor-car in Richardson Road on Monday was entered by Gordon Eastwood, aged 25, n hospital orderly, in tho Police Court yesterday, before Mr. J. Morling, S.M. Sub-Tnspector Tender said that a constable on duty at the corner of New North Road and Richardson Road received a complaint at 5.45 p.m. on Monday from a" woman motorist, who stated that accused's car had struck the rear of her vehicle. Accused had driven off and the constable followed him in complainant's car. Accused's car, which was zig-zagging along the road, Avas stopped, and tho constable was of tho opinion that the man was intoxicated.
The sub-inspector continued that accused told the constable that ho had had two largo bottles of alo at tho Avondalo racecourse during the afternoon. Dr. T. H. Pettit, called by the police, found that accused was intoxicated and not in a (it stato to bo in chargo of a car, and Dr. W. H. Thomas, called by accused, certified at 8.'15 p.m. that tho man was under tho influence of alcohol.
Stating that there had been enough warnings for this typo of offence, and that there was only one course to take, tho magistrate sentenced accused to two weeks' imprisonment. His current licence was cancelled and ho was prohibited from obtaining another licenco for ono year.
