LOAN OF £28,000

WAIKATO COUNTY'S QUEST WORK ON ROADS AND BRIDGES [fKOM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Tuesday The failure of the Waikato County Council to secure a loan of £28,000 from the Government for roads and bridges in the county was reported at a meeting of the council in Hamilton to-day. The county clerk, Mr. C. F. 12. Barton, stated that tho question had been placed before the Minister of Finance, tli! Hon. W. Nash, but so far nothing had eventuated.

Mr. Barton stated that lie had been in touch with Mr. C. A. Barrell, M.P. for Hamilton, and was expecting a definite answer from him shortly.

"We have been held up long enough, and I think that if we do not hear from tho Government soon we should try to make other arrangements," said the chairman, Mr. J. A. Sampson. Mr. 11. G. Young suggested that the council should do i\othing """til it had a definite answer from the Government. 'lf the loan were put in the hands of the brokers, they would ask for a commission of about £430. It was decided to leave the matter in tho hands of tho chairman and county 'lcrk.
