CLERIC MEETS POPE
An audience with the new Pope, His Holiness Pius XII., during a two months' stay in Italy, is among the cherished memories retained by the Rt. Rev. Monsignor Dr. Morkane, administrator of St. Joseph's Cathedral, Dunedin, who has returned to New Zealand after a nine months' holiday tour of Europe, England and America. Dr. Morkane said the Pope impressed him as a man of outstanding character and ability, and it was perhaps providential that such a man. should be in power at a time like the present. His efforts to avoid war were known and recognised throughout the world. Dr. Morkane left for the south by the afternoon express yesterday.
