RAPID PROGRESS MADE CLUB HOUSE TENDERS RENTAL OF DINGHY LOCKERS
Rapid progress is being made by the Auckland Harbour Board with tho establishment of a modern boatharbour in St. Mary's Bay. The board yesterday accepted a tender of £4944 for the erection of a building for the Richmond Cruising Club, this being tho lowest price, while tho highest tender was for £6589.
Building work on four other clubhouses has already started, the bodies concerned being the West End and Secondary Schools' Rowing Clubs, the New Zealand Power-Boat Association and tho Victoria Cruising Club. A set of dinghy lockers from the eastern reclamation has also been transferred to tho boat-harbour reclamation and is now ready for occupation. The board is also progressing satisfactorily with the now eastern boatharbour. All the concrete and brickwork for the dinghy lockers in Hobson Bay has been completed and the framing and rafters for the building have been fitted. The laying of the roof is now proceeding. In addition, the board is furnishing a. necessary wave screen, which is practically complete, and piles are being driven for the three skids.
Some of the turpentine piles' and timber for the ware .break in the boatharbour proper have also come to hand. Arrangements are being made to begin pile-driving with these at an early date. Rental of the dinghy lockers in Hobson Bay has now been considered by the board. At its meeting yesterday it adopted a recommendation that the rent should be £3 a year for each locker.
