SUGAR FOR FARMERS
BAN ON BULK BUYING MARKED EFFECT ON PRICE •< [by telegraph—own correspondent] CHRISTCHUKCH, Friday . Concern at what they regard as a big increase in the price they have to pay for sugar—not because of. an authorised price increase, but because buying in bulk has been forbiddenlias been expressed by members of th& North Canterbury district executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union. The executive has decided now to take the position up with the Government. , : Members of the executive have expressed the view that the ban on bulk buying of sugar hits farmers severely.:. A farmer has now to pay about 25s for the qauntity he used to get for about 18s. Most farmers,.especially those some distauce from stores, have always been in the habit of buying sugar by the bag. Now they are restricted to buying a few pounds each week. The executive claims that do not hoard sugar. Jams and pre* serves, they claim, play a big part VP farm economy, and with bulk buying restricted, the cost of them will greatly increased. The same effect wi be felt, it is stated, by city house\vives : who usually buy bulk lots of sugar o „ preserves.
