Gisborne and coast ports arc alivays able to send substantial quantities of early wool awav, and usually from 5000 to 6000 bales are shipped in time for inclusion in the January sales in Jvondon.
Judging by wool which has come off the sheep already, some of it is light in grease and also short in staple, and if later shown clips show the same tendency the quantity of wool from the district will be lower than usual. Very dry conditions following last shearing are said to have caused a slower 'growth at that time than under ordinary conditions, this being responsible for the shorter staple.
