AWAPUNI TRAINING

CANDIDATES FOE BULLS LAUGHING LASS GOES WELL J ROYAL SIGN AND VASCONES [from our own correspondent] PALMERSTON NORTH, Thursday Awapuni horses are freely engaged at the Rangitikei meeting at Bulls on Saturday, but, as the majority of them raced last week-end, there was not a great deal of fast work this morning. The going was firm on the course proper and the flags were out about 30ft: The best gallop was that of Laughing Lass over five furlongs, but others to go pleasingly were Vascones and Royal Sign, Brazil, Guiding Light and Thrasos. ■ ' ■ Snigger (G. R. Tattersall) was. In front of Manteau (B. H. Morris) at the end of five furlongs in 1.0 2-5, after running tho last threo in 403. Wnimutu, a Royal' Divorce gelding from L. Knapp's stable, who showed some pace nt tho recent matinoo: meeting, scampered over thrco furlongs in 30 4-ss. He has been accopted for in tho Trial Stakes at Bulls. High Peor (W. J. Broughton) galloped a milo in 1.50 2-5. Ho lias been working., well and tbcro is no doubt that ho is. improving. Laughling Lass (J; Pratt), after a slow beginning, completed fivo furlongs in 1.5 2-5, the last . throe brilliantly in 395. She will be ridden by B. H.. Morris on Saturday. Royal Sign (Morris) and Vascones (Tattersall), from a standing start, sprinted five furlongs in 1.6. Both wont well. Pauvette. (Tattersall) worked easily over threo furlongs. Kahiii, who looks to bo none tho worso for his, trip to Trentbam, where his first day showing was disappointing, was exercised on the plough. , Chary (Broughton) sprinted three furlongs in 'los. Hanover (S. Anderson) did a working gallop over seven furlongs. He should make a showing in the Rangitikei Plate, as ho is liot deficient in pace. Brazil (R. Ireland) was a couple of lengths in front of Patahi (WjJliamson) at the end of fivo furlongs, running tho last four in 51s. Brazil was going very comfortably. Raoburn, Bcauparlir. Old Surrey and Sudan were exercised on the plough. Beaupartir looks much better than he did before tho' Wellington meeting. His next race will, be in the Canterbury Cup, and it is probable that L. J. Ellis will ride him. His companions on the Riccarlon trip will bo Sudan, Raeburn, Sceptro and Old Surrey.' Last Acre and Silvanus sprinted three fun longs, finishing brilliantly to run tho lasttwo in 25 4-fis. Goldburn (Hayvice) worked well over five furlongs in I.G 4-5, Guiding Light (Tattersall), who is infusing more dash into her work, was just iji front of Thrasos (Anderson) at tho end of seven furlongs in. 1.32 3-5. Israel (H. Stewart) and Sporting' Gift (Anderson) kept together over- five 'urlongs in 1.5 2-5, running the Inst three in 38 3-ss. Battle Pomp (J-. Chaplin) and Du Maoricr (W. J.
