The chocolate and cream are placed on top of the sweet. Kitchener Socks . "M.H.F." (Heme Bay) would like to know how to wash a brightlv-coloured striped frock without letting the colours run. She has been told that soaking the frock in salt and cold water for an hour beforehand is a safe way and would be glad of confirmation of ' tins. Lumps in Custard "V.M.8." (Onehunga) states that the inquirer who wished to know how to avoid lumps in custard merely needs to mix slowly and thoroughly to make it smooth. Take 1 tablespoonful of custard powder, add very slowly, stirring all the time, sufficient milk to make it to the consistency of thin cream. Bring 1 pint of milk to the boil, add sugar, and pour in very •slowly the mixed custard powder, again stirring all the time. If it is not mixed thoroughly and stirred thoroughly, the powder will probably fall to the bottom of the saucepan, thus causing lumps.
