IMPORT REGULATIONS

CONFERENCE SUGGESTION PLAN VIEWED UNFAVOURABLY A suggestion of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce that an early conference of national organisations bo called by the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand to discuss the confinued enforcement of the import control regulations and their accompanying difficulties has not been viewed favourably by the executive of the Associated Chambers, according to a letter received at a meeting of the council of the Auckland chamber yesterday. The Auckland chamber had stated that the unsatisfactory functioning of the import control system had caused very serious difficulties to the business community and the whole question of the continuation of the system was well worthy of consideration. In its letter the executive of the Associated Chambers .said it was feltthat, in view of the attitude of the Government in the matter, tho most, profitable line of action seemed to be in the direction, of making the system as workable as possible. The executive, therefore, decided that it was not desirable to hold such a conference as Auckland suggested during the timp that the private negotiations which were being conducted by the executive with the Government were in progress, but that a conference would bo called, if necessary, at a later date.
