DIAMOND WEDDING
PONSONBY COUPLE MR. AND MRS. F. GREEN SIXTY YEARS IN THE DISTRICT Married in Auckland 00 years ago, Mr. and Mrs. F. Green, of O'Neill Street. Ponsonby, will celcbrato their diamond wedding anniversary tomorrow. They have spent all their married life in Ponsonby, and are the oldest members of the Church of Christ, which they joined shortly after their marriage. Mr. Green, who is 85 years of age, was born on gold diggings 50 miles from Geelong, Victoria.,lie was taken to England by his parents and came to New Zealand with them when 10 years old on the sailing ship Warwick. The voyage was uneventful, except that the ship was blown 200 miles off her course when rounding the Cape of Good Hope. For many years both Mr. Green's parents and grandparents lived in Newton. All three generations were skilful coach painters, and Mr. Green was employed in tho coach building business for 40 years. Mrs. Green, who was formerly Miss Sarah Ellen Binns, has lived in Auckland for 80 years. She was born in Yorkshire and came to the Dominion in the sailing ship Mermaid with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Binns, when a year old. Sho I'emembers as a child seeing her father leave for tho Maori War, and also recalls how tho Maoris used to sell baskets of peaches on the waterfront for only 6d.
Mr. and Mrs. Green's family will join them in tho celebration of their wedding anniversary to-morrow. There are five children, Mr. C. Green (Cambridge), Mr. T. Green (Grey Lynn), Mrs. L. Sheppard (Heme Bay), Mrs. A. Anthony (Point Chevalier) and Mrs. A. Poycroft (Kohimarama). There are also nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
