HARBOUR GUARD

Sir, —-Regarding the deplorable gunnery mistake at Lyttelton, may I suggest a method used in the last war off the North Foreland light at Deal and also at Gibraltar. H.M.N.Z.T. No. 22-troopship had two shots put across her bows for over-running her mark, one going past the patrol boat moored at the "Hock" and the other at Deal. Surely a patrol boat could be moored at Lyttelton with a 4in. gun on board. C. H. West.
