LABOUR PARTY BALL
CELEBRATION FUNCTION The dependants of the men who lost their lives in the recent tGlen Afton mine tragedy will benefit fnom the proceeds of a ball held in the Town Hall last night by the New Zealand Federation of Labour, Auckl.-vnd District Council, to celebrate the establishment of the 40-hour week. The guests were receiVed by the official hostess, Mrs. F. G. Young, wife of the president of the Aaickland District Council. She was assisted by Mrs. W. J. Cutlibert. wife of the vicepresident, Mrs. Lc Bas, wife of the chairman of the ball committee, and Mrs. IT. G. Staley, wife oE the secretary. The committee comprised:—Mr. F. G. Young, Mr. Norman Douglas, Mr. H. G. Staley, Mrs. A. "M. Cassie, who was wearing a frock of 'iblack satin and lace, and Mr. E. .T. Birtler. Also helping were: —Mrs. N. Barber, who wore purple lace over cyclaunen satin; Mrs. A. 'Meek, Saracen red .satin with ?i black velvet coatee; Mrs. Jt. Mitchell, autumn floral georgette; Mrs. L. Simmonds, black figured satins Mrs. J. Stewart, black Chantilly lacefc; Mrs. H. Heading, black cloque; and Mr. A. Dodds. A welcome to the guests was extended by Mr. Le Bas, representing tllio Federation of Labour, Mr. .T. A. tyee, representing the Government, and .Mr. T. P. McCready, representing the\ national executive of the New Zealand Labour Party. Acting as masters of coremoilier, were Mr. I. Wilson, Mr. E. .J. Butler and Mr. J. Fox. The dance programme comprised all old-time numbers, and Monte Carlo and other competitive waltzes added to the interest of the guests.
