GERMAN AIRCRAFT SOLDIER SHOT DEAD FRONTIER INCIDENTS ACTIVITY AT DANZIG (Received August 28, 10.30 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 2« Warsaw reports state that there have been 34 frontier violations by German aeroplanes during the last 24 hours. A German cavalry sergeant who lost his way on patrol duty and went four miles into Polish territory was shot dead. Poles and Germans exchanged shots at Kydnik, Silesia and a number were wounded on both sides. Intense military activity prevailed in Danzig throughout the night. Barricades were thrown up along the western frontier while patrols of soldiers tramped through the streets to the frontier. The police commissioner in Danzig has forbidden aircraft flying over the Free City. A Berlin message claims that Poles blew up the Jablunka Pass tunnel connecting Slovakia with Poland. . . STAND WITH BRITAIN AUSTRALIAN DECISION FIGHTING CHIEFS RECALLED DEFENCE STEPS INTENSIFIED CANBERRA, Aug. 2*S The Prime Minister, Mr. R. G. Menzieu, stated to-day that the views of the Commonwealth Government on the international situation had been placed before Mr. Chamberlain. It is authoritatively stated that the Commonwealth Government has expressed the opinion that every effort should be' made to achieve a settlement by negotiation, but that if Britain were forced into vrar Australia would stand with her.
Although official cablegrams received by Federal Ministers at the week-end presented a brighter view of the international situation, . defence measures have been intensified as. a precautionary measure.
Cablegrams have been sent recalling to Australia the first naval member, Sir Kagnnr Colvin; the Chief of the General Stnff, Major-General Laverack; and the Adjutant-General, Colonel E. K. Smart. WOOL SALES POSTPONED (Received August 28, 10.35 p.m.) SYDNEY, Aug. 28 The Woolselliug Brokers' Association lias decided to postpone the Sydney wool sales for a week because of the international situation.
