COLD TEMPERATURES CHANGEABLE WITH RAIN Tho weather report and forecast for New Zealand issued by the Government meteorologist last evening were as follows: —Pressure is very low to the east, while shallow depressions advancing from the south-west continue to cross tho Dominion. The forecast is for light to fresh southerly to westerly winds predominating. Seas rather rough about Cook and Foveaux Straits and on the west coast of the North Island; otherwise slight to moderate, but with a southerly swell on the cast coast south of East Cape. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate southerly winds and moderate seas, a change to freshening north-westerlies probably advancing over the southern portion after about 24 hours. The weather is likely to be fine at first in western districts south of Taranaki, but otherwise changeable, with occasional showers, and fair intervals. Cold temperatures. SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST OCCASIONAL SHOWERS The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Moderate south - westerly winds. Occasional showers are still probable, but the weather is likely to be mainly fair. Moderate temperatures. Seas moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER Auckland.—Conditions were showery with a fresh west-north-west wind. The maximum temperature was 59 degrees and the minimum 47 degrees. Barometric pressure fell slightly. Barometer, midnight, 29.53 ii;, (1003; millibars) Midnight, Sunday 29.75 in. (1007 millibars) Wellington. —Rain . fell throughout Sunday night and continued until noon. The weather thereafter was dull. There were a few flakes of snow between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. There was a light to moderate southerly breeze, the maximum temperature being 41.4 degrees. At •'! p.m. the barometer reading was 29.61.3 in (1002.8 millibars). Christcluirch. —The weather was fine in the morning, but the sky clouded soon after noon, and rain set in later. Early in the evening it turned to snow. A light but cold south-west wind prevailed, the maximum temperature being 41 degrees. The barometer rose slightly to 29.70 in. (1005 millibars) at 5 p.m. Dunedin. —After a heavy fall of mow overnight, conditions were cold, with a fresh breeze from the south-west and a heavily overcast sky. Light snow and heavy rain showers fell at intervals during the morning. _ and there was a heavy hail shower in the afternoon.
