AWARD DELAYS

PARTIES' CRITICISM I AGREEMENTS IN COUNCIL IMMEDIATE RATIFICATION Delay by the Arbitration Court in making awards after a complete agreement liad been reached by both parties in Conciliation Council was criticised by the secretary of the Auckland .Employers' Association, Mr. W. 10. Anderson. and the president of the Auckland Trades Council of the Federation of Labour. Mr. F. Jp. Young, yesterday. The question arose at the beginning of the sittings in Auckland of Mr. J. A. Gilntour, S.M., with the delegated authority of the Arbitration Court. When the borough council and town board officers' dispute was called during the making of fixtures, Mr. Anderson said a complete agreement had been reached in Conciliation Council, in these circumstances, ho suggested, .an award should come into force within a reasonable time. The agreement had been reached early in the year and letters had been addressed to the Arbitration Court before Easter. There was 110 reason why these awards should be held up. Where there was a complete agreement, he could see 110 reason why it could not bo made into an award "right away. Mr. Young supported this view and asked that it should be conveyed to the Arbitration Court. The federation was satisfied that-a great deal of the dissatisfaction that existed was because of the inefficiency of the machinery. Castes of this sort should be dealt with promptly. This would do a good deal to remove dissatisfaction. In answer to the magistrate, Mr. Anderson said the papers had not been sent to him, but to the Arbitration Court. ~ , , , Mr. Gilraour said lie thought arrangements were fairly well in hand now, and that where there were complete recommendations lie had always made them into awards. He would convey the suggestion to the Arbitration Court. ~ f. ■ The making of the award for borough council and town board officers i„ terms of the Conciliation Council recommendations was deterred until a communication was received from the workers' representative, who was not present in Court.
