NEW INDUSTRIES
AUCKLAND'S CLAIMS POSSIBLE DEVELOPMENTS POWER BOARD'S SUPPORT "We arc behind any movement yon are making for the advancement of new industries in Auckland; 1 think urgency is the prime factor at the moment," said the chairman of the Auckland Electric-Power Board, Mr. S. J. Harbutt, at a meeting yesterday, when the hoard received a deputation on the subject. The deputation consisted of the president of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, Mr. A. Ely; the president of the .Auckland Manufacturers' Association, Mr. M. W. Shove.; and the president of the Auckland Employers' Association, Mr. J. A. C. Allum. Mr. Ely said they were continually getting inquiries from overseas about the possibilities of starting new industries in this country. They were not yet at the stage when they could put forward a concrete proposition, as some data had still to be received. Mr. Allum said they would be very pleased if they received the encouragement from other local bodies they had been given by the board. Mr. Shove said one of their problems was to examine why so many now industries wore being established in Wellington. They would have to see if they could direct some industries to Auckland. Suggestions by the board included the establishment of an industrial relations bureau, advertising in overseas trade journals, and an industrial development association.
