A Cabinet communique savs the l»i •ime .M mister. M. Daladicr, informed the Cabinet of -the general situation, which be said was very serious, and explained thV measures taken to strengthen France's action and dispel any doubts entertained concerning it. It is understood the Cabinet decided to back Poland fully in the event of a move against Danzig. The Paris press is more pessimistic, agreeing that only a spark is needed to blow up the powder keg Herr Hitler has planted in Danzig. It is also felt that Viscount Halifax's speech was too late to make a decisive impression upon Herr Hitler and Signor Mussolini, who, it is feared, are committed too deeply to go back now. The French Government lias decided to speed up the construction of two now aircraft-carriers and the two battleships, Biehelieu and .lean Bart. France has opened enlistment rolls to foreign residents prepared to serve "for the duration of war."
