CONTESTS THIS EVENING WELTER-WEIGHT TITLE BOUT Billy Parris, of Wellington, meels Neville Mudgway in an attempt to wrest from him the New Zealand welter-weight championship nt the Town Hall to-night under the control Of the Auckland Boxing Association. It is some time since the Auckland boxing public has had the opportunity of seeing a title bout and the contest is creating widespread interest. Parris is a challenger to lie reckoned with and it is anticipated that it will ho a hard, thrilling contest, with the issue in doubt all the time. In view of the importance, of the bout, Mudgway has trained assiduously over the past few weeks and he is entirely confident that he will be able to retain the championship. In spite of the splendid reputation of his opponent. A short professional contest of eight threeminute rounds, between Henry Wellington, of Auckland, and Les. Wise, of Australia, will precede the big bout. Although both lads arc new to professional ranks, they have displayed excellent form in gymnasium work-outs and should provide plenty of bright entertainment for (he spectators. There will bo the usual amateur preliminaries.

RAYNER DEFEATS LOVERIDGE

Rayncr, at !>st 71b, was conceding 10% pounds, but ho made light of this handicap,-completely outclassing Ins opponent, who absorbed severe punishment in the gamest possible fashion. In one of his best performances In the local ring Rayncr fought like n real champion, displaying vigour and speed throughout and punching beautifully with both hands. Out. of the 11 rounds lie won eight and two were indecisive. In a second professional bout, limited to eight rounds, Val Borcorsky, of Murchisoji, erstwhile conqueror of the lain Harold Thomas, ns a amateur, knocked out, in the fifth round. Jnck Griffin, of Wellington, who was making his professiona debut. Griffin, •il Hist 71b was a stone heavier and had an advantage in height and reach. He was leading on points when he received a terrify right swing to the point of the. jaw. Griffin boxed promisingly and administered a good deal of .punishment before he carelessly left an opening for the deciding blow.
