SOCCER GAMES

OPENING OF SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES MOUNT ALBERT AND THISTLE The Auckland Football Association will open its championship competitions this afternoon, when the principal game at Blandi'ord Park will bo between Mount Albert Grammar Old Boys and Thistle. Both teams include several newcomers and it will be interesting to see how they perform. The result is very open. - Eastern Suburbs has been drawn to meet the strong Abels eleven at St. Heliers, while the newly-promoted Grey Lynn side will play Onehunga, at Onehunga. The latter has improved considerably and should give a fine display against Grey Lynn, which has all the appearances of a capable team. Both Ponsonby and Comrades, which will meet at Victoria Park, have acquired a number of players from other clubs with a liberal sprinkling of talenetd juniors. Last year's champion, North Shore, is matched with Y.M.C.A. at Devonport.
