DRUG TREATMENT
CASES OF MENINGITIS KHARTOUM, April 4 Astonishing results in the treatment of eerebro-spinal meningitis are being obtained in the Equatorial Province with the sulphonilamide drug "MayandBaker 693."
The mortality rate in previous epidemics was between 60 and 80 per cent, but the recovery rate now is 90 per cent. It is hoped that the disease in future will he controllable, with little loss of life.
"Sulphonilamide preparations are used expensively in this hospital in the treatment of pneumonia and various other conditions," said Dr. J. W. Craven, medical superintendent at the Auckland Hospital, when the above message was referred to him. "Fortunately, we have not had many cases of cerebro-spinal meningitis," he continued, "but those few we have had were successfully treated with the drug mentioned. It is used a good deal in private practice in Auckland and elsewhere, and with good results."
