WRONG LICENCES

TARANAKI ANGLERS FINED FOUND FISHING AT TE WHAITI [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN COTt/RESrONDENT] ROTORUA. Thursday Two anglers who admitted fishing at Te Whaifci without Rotorua district licences, E. H. Marfnrt and G. F. Bertrand, were each convicted and fined £2 in the Rotorua Magistrate's Court yesterday by Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M. The Conservator of Fish and Game, Mr. A. Kean, who prosecuted, said that on January 6, Chief Ranger Dickinson found the two defendants walking up from the river at Te Whaiti with fishing gear. They admitted that they had been fishing. They had Taranalti district licences, but none for the Rotorua district. Bertrand had fished in this district before and must have known that a district licence was required. The magistrate asked whether it was clear that Te Whaiti was in the Rotorua acclimatisation district. Mr. Kean said that it; was practically in the centre of the district. The minimum penalty; of £2 was imposed.
