AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION SCHEME TO COACH JUNIORS VISIT OF AUSTRALIAN LADIES A report on the proposal to arrange for coaching of juniors was submitted to the meeting of delegates of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association last night by the senior selection committee at the request of the emergency committee. Tho report recommended that any coaching adopted should continue over a period of three years, and that should be restricted to four bo.vs and four girls. It was also recommended that the players should not be selected entirely on match results. A decision was made to allocate a sum of £lO. which would be subsidised by an equal amount from the New Zealand Association, for the purpose of such a scheme, and that the control of the scheme be left in the hands of the junior selection committee. The president, Mr. S. Lamb, reported that at tho next qunrterly meeting of the New Zealand Association the Canterbury association would introduce a motion for the appointment of a New Zealand selection committee each year to select New Zealand representatives. Mr. Cleal opposed the scheme. He considered it desirable that questions of policy, such as tho encouragement of younsrer players, should continue to influence selection. Mr. A. C. St. Johns criticised tho present system, whereby tho teams are selected by the management committee of the Now Zealand Association, stating that it did not fulfil the qualifications suggested by Mr. Cleal, and moved that tho association's delegates be instructed to support the Canterbury motion. This resolution was carried. Advice was received from the Now Zealand Association to the effect that, owintc to the inability of several leading players to travel to Australia, the proposed tour had been cancelled, but it was suggested that a junior boys' team should be sent to New South Wales in February. It was reported that Misses Hardcastle and Rice, leading Australian players, had accepted an invitation to competo in the Now Zealand championships this season. A letter was received from the Fergusson Park Club complaining about the condition of the Domain courts. An earlier report from the association's hard court grounds superintendent stated ■ that tho courts, were unsatisfactory and needed to bo resurfaced with a bituminous material. The City Council had advised that it was not in a position to undertake this work at present, but would give attention to the watering system. It was decided to ask the council Parks Committee to receive a deputation on tho matter. Mr. Lamb reportod that tho New Zealand junior championships and the North Island championships clashed with the Auckland championships. He said that application had beon made to tho New Zealand Association to chango these dates, but the latter association had replied that it was not possible to do so. As several of tho best Auckland juniors would bo debarred from competing in the local championships for this season, an endeavour would bo made to rearrange the local tournament. Tho matter was referred back to the emergency committee. On the recommendation of Mr. N. Smith, it was decided to appoint Mr. J. M. Allison a delegate to tho New Zealand Association. Mr. Hall, on behalf of the inter-club committee, moved that inter-club matches should commence at noon. Several delegates pointed out that their players comprised a large number who worked until noon or 12.30 p.m. on Saturdays, and the proposal was impracticable. The motion was lost. The Mairangi Bay Club was granted affiliation. PAPAKURA TEAM SELECTED The following team has been selected to represent Papakura against Manurewa in an outer t-üburban match under the control of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association on Saturday:—-G. F. McDonald, A. Donald, G. Sutton, D. Beams, L. K. Garlick (Captain), R. Irvine. Mcsdames L. K. Garlick, J. Kerr, D. Kinninmont, Miss F. B. O'Hara.
