THE MINING MARKET OVERSEAS ISSUES SOUGHT METALS CLOSE EASIER Support in the mining market on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday tfras concentrated on the Australian and Fijian Section. North Broken Hills changed hands at an advance of 6d to 525, hut at the close the market showed an easier tendency in the base metals group. Closing quotations were: —

AUSTRALIAN STEEL PLANT Construction of the new basic open hearth furnace at the Port Kembla works of Australian Iron and Steel, Limited, lias been completed. The furnace, which incorporates some unusual features in its design, brings tho total number of open hearth furnaces at the works to five. It raises the ingot capacity of the works to approximately 61)0,000 tons a year.
