LAMB AND PIGS
REDUCED KILLINGS UNSATISFACTORY POSITION RESULT OF LATE SEASON Because of the late season killings of lamb and pigs at the various freezing works in the Auckland Province are described as well below normal. The unsatisfactory position, which has had the effect of reduoing the number of men normally employed in slaughtering operations at this period, is naturally intensified by the deadlock on i the wharves preventing shipment of carcases.
Just what effect the recent eczema outbreak has had on the offerings of lamb is impossible to gauge because supplies have dropped and lamb offering is light in weight as the natural result of a late season. The dairy position regulates that for pigs. The dairy output is below normal, so that in consequence fewer pigs have been finished off in condition for slaughter.
