BOBBY CALVES AND FRUIT INVESTIGATIONS AT GISBORNE [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION] GISBORNE, "Wednesday Conditions in the bobby calf and cit-rus-growing industries were investigated by officials representing the Internal Marketing Division, who visited Gisborne to-day. The officials were Mr. H. H. Innes, the department's investigating officer, and Mr. W. K. Dallas, Director of the Horticultural Division of the Agriculture Department, whose primary .concern was to inquire into citrus production in particular and prospects of fruit crops in general. He said he was aware that the Gisborne district orchards had been aifected slightly by water-logged conditions during the winter, but he had received 110 report that the damage was widespread or severe. Investigations regarding the bobby calf trade were to ascertain conditions hero compared with other parts of the Auckland Province, where pools were operating. Gisborne was the only part of the prbvince, in which there were 57 pools with a turnover of 400,000 calves, where no pool was in existence, Mr. Innes said. • « Plans have been prepared for the maize industry for submission to the Director of Internal Marketing, Mr. F. 11. Pieot,. on his return from Australia next week. Gisborne growers have been advocating au increment on the price of os a bushel f.o.b. Gisborne, fixed for the first three months of the season. They contend that grain sold later in the season should be sold at a higher rate.
