JAPANESEJRAIDERS APPALLING HAVOC VICTIMS TOTAL 8000 ONLY 100 SURVIVORS By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received October 25, 0.0 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 25 In addition to the 1000 passengers reported to have been killed when Japanese airmen bombed and sank the steamer Kongsin, 100 miles south of Hankow, Japanese bombed and sank the Sianyang and an unnamed collier on Lake Tungting in the Yangtse River. It is stated, says tho Shanghai correspondent of the News Chronicle that 2000 people on the former vessel and 5000 on the latter were drowned, only 100 being saved. Tho British admiral commanding the China squadron has most strongly protested to the Japanese Navy against the bombing of the gunboat Sandpiper at Changsha, snvs the Australian Associated Press. The positions of British ships are conveyed daily to tho Japanese in accordance Avith the months-old practice instituted at the request of the Japanese. A Japanese announcement states that the reports of tho bombing of the Sandpiper are unbelievable and the subsequent investigation will be searching.
