WEEK-END CAMPS

Y.W.C.A. GIRLS' OUTINGS TRAMPS THROUGH BUSH FOLK DANCING AND SPORTS Three camps were held bv members of the Young Women's Christian Association during the week-end. Sixteen members of the senior department left town by launch for Wade Heads, where a most enjoyable weekend was spent in fishing, boating and tramping. The party walked to Arkles Bay and Manly on Saturday, and had the first swim of the season after a picnic lunch. A walk through the bush and supper on the pier brought the day to a close. Outdoor Service A devotional service was held on the hillside overlooking the river next morning, and in the afternoon the girls walked to Orewa. Monday was spent in fishing and walking. Miss Hetty Thorpe, senior activities secretary, was in charge of this party. A party of 20 gymnasium and sports girls wont by caravan on Friday night to Karekare, where they spent the week-end in baches and under canvas. The surroundings were explored on Saturday, and the more venturesome members surfed. The afternoon was spent in folk dancing, beach sports and tramps, and a camp fire lent a delightful setting to the evening's programme of community singing. Visit on West Coast The party on Sunday visited Anawhata, where the third Y.W.C.A. group had made its headquarters after a : long tramp on Saturday. Having had a swim in the early morning sunshine, they were in good spirits to welcome the campers front Karekare. The combined groups took part in an outdoor service in the afternoon. In spite of the rain final visits were made to creeks and hills on Monday and, after tea, caravans were loaded again and the return made to the city.
