WIN BY .TEN VOTES GAIN FOR NATIONALS WAITAKI SEAT FINAL REDUCTION IN MAJORITY [BV TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION] WAIMATE, Tuesday The final count for the Waitaki electorate resulted in the return of Mr. D. C. Kidd (National), who defeated the pitting Government member, Mr. D. Barnes, by 10 votes. The details are as follows: — Kidd 4668 Barnes 4658 Majority for Kidd> . . 10 Informal . . .... 42 Total votes cast . . 9368 Mr. Kidd led by 62 votes after the first count and gained 21 on the recount of votes at the various booths. Postal and absentee votes were cast as follows: —Absentee: Barnes, 255; Kidd, 188; informal, 1. Postal: Barnes, 85; Kidd, 80; informal, 1. Declaration: Barnes, 3; Kidd, 3. Seamen: Barnes, 1. One doubtful result still remains to be decided. This is Mid-Canterbury, where Mr. A. N. Grigg (National) at S resent has a majority of 48 votes over [r. H. E. Herring (Government).

G. Hultquist (Government), eecuring a majority of 169 votes over the National candidate, Mr. W. Sullivan. The final figures were as follows: — Hultquist . . . . . . 4966 Sullivan 4797 Majority for Hultquist 169 There were 629 declaration, postal and absentee votes, and these weri cast as follows: — Hultquist, 3; Sullivan, 1. Postal: Hultquist, 47; Sullivan, 83; informal, 2. Absentee: Hultquist, 286; SulKvan, 205; informal, 2.

ALIiEN'S MAJORITY VICTORY IN HAURAKI CONTEST [by tei.bgbaph—OWN correspondent] MORRINSVILLE, Tuesday The official recount in the Hauraki electorate reduced the majority of the National candidate, Mr. J. M. Alien, over the Government candidate. Mr. R. Coulter, from 1245 to 1188. The final figures were as follows: Allen 5291 Coulter 4103 Majority for Allen . 1188 Absentee'and postal votes were cast as follows: —Absentee: Allen, 190; Coulter, 272. Postal: Allen, 56; Gottlter, 35.
CHECKING ROLLS THE AUCKLAND AREA WORK NOT FINISHED TWO DECLARATIONS TO-DAY > Exhaustive checking of the polling for the 11 Parliamentary seats in the vicinity of Auckland is still being carried out by the majority of tha returning officers and their staffs. The writs do not have to be returned to Wellington until next Tuesday and although an exceptionally large number of postal and absentee votes were cast this year, no difficulty is anticipated in making the declarations in time. At least two declarations will be made to-day, those for Onehunga and Otahuhu. In the case of Onehunga, the provisional count showed a majority for Mr. A. G. Osborne (Labour) over Mr ; _ J. Park (National) of 4096 and no substantial change in this figure is «*- pected. This is also the case with-the Otahuhu poll, where Mr. C. R. PetiW (Labour) had a provisional majority of 2182 over Mr. K. B. Tennent (National).
