LOST ON MOUNT GREY
NIGHT SPENT IN BUSH HUNTER'S EXPERIENCE SEPARATED FROM COMPANIONS [by telegraph—own correspondent] CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday Losing his way while coining out from a shooting expedition on Mount Grey on Sunday, Hector Flint, aged 18. "of Springfield Poad, was forced to spend Sunday night in the bush near the Kowhai River. His failure to appear at the camp where other members of the party were to join him led to the organisation of a search party, but Flint reached Amberley yesterday morning while the searchers were still in the bush.
With two companions, Messrs. P. L. Prebble. of 12 Wainoni Road, and A. G. Elliott, of 799 Colombo Street, Flint went to Mount Grey to • shoot. Early on Sunday afternoon, Flint, who was wet through, decided to return to the camp at a roadside where the party had left a car. He took Mr. Elliott's dog with him, and soon after leaving the other two men the dog raised a wild pig. which it chased. Flint followed the dog. and lost his way. He spent the night in a clump of bush, the rain making matters most unpleasant for him. Yesterday morning ho followed the river into open country, and called at the home of Mr. T. Fleming, of Broomfield. who gave him breakfast and took him to Amberlev. When Flint's companions returned to the camp at dusk on Sunday, and there was no sign of Flint, they communicated with Constable F. T. Pool, of Amberley, who organised a search party from among near by farmers. A party of 10 set out at daylight yesterday morning, but was recalled when Flint reached Amberley, and the searchers returned to the town late yesterday afternoon.
