CRICKET CONTROL

COACHING IN SCHOOLS NOVEL SCHEME PROPOSED USE OF MOTION FILMS The need for efficient coaching of primary school and college players was stressed by Mr. H. Duncan at last night's meeting of the management committee of the Auckland Cricket Association. Mr. E. E. Nalder was pointed deputy-chairman for the season and presided in the absence of Mr. W. It. Fee. The use of a motion picture film showing some notable cricketers in action, with the strokes shown by slow motion, was one means by which Mr. Duncan said efficient coaching could be carried out. He suggested that if several films were obtained they could be shown in both primary schools and colleges,' while club teams could also benefit by viewing them. He also expressed the opinion that, in conjunction with the showing of the films, talks by prominent cricketers would materially assist. It was decided to bring the-matter before the attention of the Now Zealand Council and to emphasise the value of such methods. Owing to illness, Mr. W. R. Fee advised that he would bo unable to represent the association at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Cricket Conncil at Christchurch. Mr. H. Duncan was appointed to attend the meeting. A letter was received from the Canterbury Association suggesting alterations in the rules of the Brabir Shield competition. The secretary, Mr. E. J. Price, stated that this shield did not concern Auckland, as it was for competition between Wellington and Canterbury only. The opinion of most of the members was that the matter should be referred to the donor of the shield, Mr. L. J. Brabin, It was decided to notify the Canterbury Association accordingly. The junior advisory committee reported that it had considered the proposed personnel of several of the teams entered for this season and had decided to make some changes with a view to making more even competitions. The proposed changes were:— Grey Lynn, Northcote and Point Chevalier Clubs, second grade entries, transferred to intermediate grade; Bridgens and Tamaki Club's entries, transferred from third to intermediate. This action was confirmed by the management committee. Consideration was given to enforcing a penalty on clubs which failed to send in their result cards. It was agreed to leave the matter to Messrs. Fee, Price and Duncan, who were requested to table a report at the next meeting. It was the intention of the committee to present Mr. A. M. Matheson with the ball with which he took his hundredth wicket in Plunket Shield cricket last season. Owing to his absence, however, it was decided to make the presentation at Eden Park next Saturday. The resignation of Mr. E. Stallworthy from the secretaryship of the Auckland City and Suburban Cricket Association was referred to. The friendly feeling which had existed between the two associations was stressed, and it was resolved to thank Mr. Stallworthy for his assistance in the past. The secretary reported that the total entries numbered 76, an increase of two on those of the previous season. It was decided to extend congratulations to Mr. J. A. Dunning, the Otago and New Zealand representative, on his appointment as headmaster of Scott's College. Brishane. members expressing regret at the resultant loss to New Zealand cricket. ■ a A donation of one guinea toward the. endowment fund was made by the Tamnki Club.
