TRAINING GALLOPS MANY LONG WORK-OUTS ROYAL CHIEF REPORTED FIT SIX FURLONGS BY OTHELLO (Received October 25, 5.5 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 25 Conditions were ideal to-day for training. At Caulfield, on the steeplechase grass track next tho rails, Tempest easily beat Fort Regal over a mile and a-quarter in 2.10*. Lynch Law held off Destiny Bay over five furlongs in 1.3. Romford was going comfortably alongside Wellington Maid to record 49s for half a mile.
With the trestles 20ft. out, Othello ran a smart six furlongs in 1.15 J. Marauder and Son of Aurous finished together at the end of a mile and aquarter in 2.13. Beechwood beat Sylphide over six furlongs in 1.161. Beaumari and Esperanto were together to register 50s for half a mile.
On the sand, Royal Chief, after pace work, sprinted four furlongs in 52is. He is very fit. Tho Trump covered seven furlongs in 1.32. Bourbon, going well, ran 13 miles- in 3.10 and finished strongly, tho last mile and a-quarter taking 2.15. At Flemington, on the tan, Gold Rod went well to run six furlongs in 1.16 J. On tho course proper, 30ft. out, Sir Regent and Bachelor King both without shoes, took 2.12 for a mile and a-quarter. St. Constant and Good Boy finished together at tho end of nine furlongs in 1.59 J. Gay Knight beat L'Aiglon in 1.59.
El Scnorita was bettor than Haughty Stare over a mile run in 1.46 J. Diamond Wedding and Bonheur do Pero ran the best seven furlongs, taking 1.31}. Young Crusader hit out freely to register 2.13 for a mile and a-qunrter. Mohican did half a mile in 51^s. Down the straight, Mars Flight beat Magnetic Knight and Captain Kettle at the end of five furlongs in 1.3}, Beaucaire beat Kestrel and Vigilance in 1.33. Nuffield galloped a mile and 20 yards in 1.42} right-handed at Mentone today and lie pulled up well. It was a splendid trial. Conveyor is an acceptor for the Kyneton Handicap to-morrow. New Zealand acceptors for the Maribyrnong Plate include Beaucaire and Beau Mari.
GISBORNE EXERCISES FINAL WORK YESTERDAY [by telegraph —OWN correspondent] OISBORNE, Tuesday Most of the horses engaged at the Poverty Bay Turf Club's meeting, which opens on Thursday, had their final gallops this morning. The outstanding trial of the morning was that of Illinois and Gazeful. Both carried substantial weights, and separately they recorded 49 2-5s for half a mile. Head Shepherd beat Plenteous in 50s. Okawa sprinted twice up the straight. Birkology easily heat True over six furlongs in 1.17 2-5. Quaint ran 1.18 and looks bright. Red Hunting could not go with Perfect Lady over the last bit of half a mile run in 51s. Queen's Dream took 51s. Sunny Lass recorded 1.7 for fivo furlongs. Air Commodore has not impressed since arriving here. Golden Blonde and Gold Ballad ran seven furlongs in 1.34. Gay Hunter and De Friend finished together to record 1.29 2-5, the last three in 38s—an excellent trial. Pcnnyoomequick was nhond of legatee and Bothwell in 1.30 3-5. Pennycomequick went very well. _ , Huntette and Hunting Royal took 50s for half a mile. Tu Rahiri went well to run 50 2-ss. Javola ran five furlongs easily in 1.4. Mimicry easily beat Native Song in 1.3 2-5, Mimicry going easily at the end. lleay Bridge was too good for Whctu over five furlongs in similar time. Minnow easily defeated Mendelssohn and Small Boy over seven furlongs in 1.30 2-5, but Mendelssohn might have done better. Skyway easily beat Royal Stuart in 1.32. Mahala jumped a round of tho hurdles safely. Seven Seas did not impress in a similar task. Miss Blue was of no use to Queen's Dream over a round -of the hurdles. The latter jumped very well.
DRIVER FINED £2O INTERFERENCE HELD PROVED The judicial committee of the Auckland Trotting Club conducted a lengthy inquiry yesterday afternoon into the circumstances of tho falling of Top Hand, Scottish Bard and Wall Streot in the Improvers' Handicap ou Monday. It was found that W. Clifton, driver of Bronze King, was guilty of tho interference which caused the accident and ho was fined £2O. Tho public will be given the opportunity of inspecting tho new Orient luxury liner Orcades on Saturday, when the vessel will be open from 2 to 5 p.m. A charge of 6d a person will be made, proceeds to be devoted to tho Auckland Missions to Seamen.
