RAILWAY SUBSIDENCE
PROBLEM NEAR WANGANUI [BY TF.EEC.RArH —OWN COFRESrOVDEST] WAXGAKUI, Tuesday liOnso sand at a subsidence on the railwav near Westmere, seven miles from Wanpanui, and the presence of a large spring has set railway engineers a problem. Temporary repairs were made yesterday in time to get excursion train through to the "Waverlev races, but a pump, delivering 11,000 gallons an hour, was unable to deal with the -water from the spring. The district engineer. Mr.- 4. Dow, and au inspector of permanent way, Mr. \V. Edmonds, worked continuously from 2 a.m. on Sunday till yesterday afternoon superintending a gang of 75 men.
