LABOURER'S INJURIES
CLAIM FOR COMPENSATION ACCIDENT AT PAPATOETOE A claim for compensation for injuries suffered during the course of his employment was made by Harry Thompson, labourer, of Papatoetoe (Mr. Sullivan), against the Papatoetoe Town Hoard (Mr. Hore) in the Arbitration Court yesterday.
In his statement of claim plaintiff said that on May 25. 1987, he was employed by the Town Board in digging a storm-water trench alongside the entrance to the Papatoetoe stadium. While working at a depth of about sft. a section of the kcrbing and the side of the cutting caved in. Plaintiff was buried to the waist and a 12ft. length of concrete pinned him in a stooping position. In consequence plaintiff was and continued to bo disabled from earning wages from that date. Plaintiff said he had been paid compensation at the rate of £2 los a week from May 2- r >. 1937, to February 8, 19.'18. He claimed compensation at the same rate from February 8 up to the present, a lump sum, £1 as medical expenses, costs, and such further relief as might be deemed just. A denial that plaintiff was still disabled from earning wages wns made by the Town Board in its statement of defence.
After hearing medical evidence the Court adjourned until this morning.
