CHINESE DRIVER
VERDICT OF NEGLIGENCE NO LICENCE FOR FIVE YEARS [ I'ltOM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Tuesday A motor collision which occurred on the Main South Road at Horotiu on the night of June (5 led to the appearance of an Auckland Chinese fruiterer. Ng Hong, aged ."$5, before Mr. •!ustice Blair in the Supreme Court at Hamilton to-day, charged with negligently driving a motor-car and causing bodily injury to five people. In all, seven people were injured in the accident. Air. H. T. Gillies and Mr. .T. It Fit/.-Gerald appeared for the Crown, and Sir. W. J. King represented the accused. Dr. K. H. Bridgman, of the Waikato Hospital staff, said the accused was the most seriously injured. He was in hospital for two and a-half months. Mr. King said he admitted that. Hong's car was on the wrong side of the road at the point, of impact. Counsel submitted that Hong did not attempt to pass other cars, but that he was prohablv embarrassed by ;i patch of fog and by glaring lights!
After a retirement of four and a-half hours tho jury returned a verdict of guilty, with a. very strong recommendation to mercy. His Honor ordered the prisoner to pay the costs of the pros®eution, £36. and cancelled his driving licence for five yeare.
