AUCKLAND COUNCIL YEAR'S WORK REVIEWED Several activities of a positive kind were reported at the annual meeting of tho Auckland Council of Christian Congregations, held last night in St. David's Church, the Per. R. Ferguson Fish presiding. The 17th annual report stated that last Juno the council organised a united gathering in the Town Hall to commemorate the 400 th anniversary of the placing of the open Bible in the churches of England. At the same time, through tho efforts of Mr. H. H. Driver, an exhibition of Biblical treasures from the collections of the Auckland Public Library and Trinity Methodist College was arranged in the Public Library. Later in the year, a day of prayer for oppressed Jews in various countries was hold in city and suburban churches. By arrangement with the Herald, a small space had been set apart in tho paper as a devotional corner, under tho heading, "Beginning the Day." Tho contents were provided by ministers of all denominations. The innovation had mot with widespread approval, and many people had expressed thanks for its influence. Owing to presume of other work, the report stated, no action had been taken in the way of reorganising tho representation of churches on the council. Tho council resolved to approach the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, with a view to obtaining representation on the subcommittee of the Auckland Provincial Centennial Council dealing with religiotiß observances. The following officers were elected for tho ensiling year: —President, the Rev. W. E. Lush; vice-presidents, the Rev. 11. Ferguson Fish, the Rev. F. Copeland, Mr. H. H. Driver; honorary secretar3' and treasurer, Mr. W. H. YVhitelaw; honorary auditor, Mr. C. H." Furness: honorary legal adviser. Mr. R. G. Sellar; executive, the Revs. W. W. Averill, W. T. Blight, Dr. H. Ranston, Messrs. P Gladstone Hughes, R. G. McDowall, M. Gow, Dr. J. J. North, Dr. A. Hodge, and A. C. Nelson, Brigadier Sutcr, Major Hildreth, Dr. L. G. Drury, Messrs. K., Smith, W.
