FERTILISER DISPUTE
EMPLOYERS' ATTITUDE NO NEW DEVELOPMENT No further developments have arisen in the trouble which occurred last week when manure workers employed at fertiliser works at Otahuhu and Papatoeto© ceased work for a day because they objected to the terms of a new award issued by the Court of Arbitration. At the time the employers intimated that they were not concerned in tho dispute; as parties to the award they were prepared to abide by it. Subsequently, tho Minister of Labour, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, announced that he had no power to vary tho award, and he suggested that if it contained anomalies that were admitted by employers and employees there was always a possibility of tho parties coming together for the purpose of straightening out the difficulties. Ho added ho was in touch with the employers to see if it were possiblo to como to 6omo agreement.
It is known that Mr. W. Slaughter, officer in charge of tho Labour Department in Auckland, consulted with managers of tho works concerned on Thursday. His report on the conferenco was forwarded to the Minister. In the meantime, no further announcement has been made on tho subject.
