The Application of Chromium An Untarnishable Surface In recent years the discovery of the deposition of chromium on metals has given to the world one of the most serviceable sciences known to man. Metals so treated have that bright and lustrous finish that requires no constant attention. Even in the cases where its original brilliance becomes dulled by dust, simple washing and drying will restore its original attraction. Chromium to-day is an essential feature in every home and office. As an instance, one invariably sees its use in a bathroom applied to such articles as basins, taps and towel vails, and in other parts of a modern building where stanchions, window catches, door knobs and locks form a necessary part of architecture. In the kitchen, too, chromium finish to electric and gas stoves is becoming extremely popular. To the busy housewife or housemaid, chromium plating represents a great boon as it saves much, if not all, that rubbing with abrasives to achieve a spotless surface. Motor car parts manufactured to-day are without exception chromium plated and it is safe to say that all bumpers, door handles, radiator shells, lamps and other fittings on modern cars have been chromium plated, not only to add attractiveness to the car itself, but also to save the owner much of that arduous task of constantly polishing. Chromium plating is a highly skilled and well founded local industry, employing a large staff of Auckland men and youths. They are constantly employee! in scouring, 111 ' : \ ■; 'r, " W .v ' ■ V Vi ; .,.y tm i THE MODERN BATHROOM cleaning, polishing and chromium-plating the thousands of articles in daily use by homes, industries and the motor world. Old established businesses have long built up an enviable reputation for enduring and artistic workmanship. Another section of the platers' craft is represented in silver plating, one of the oldest of crafts. It is used mainly in depositing the many thousands of ounces of silver yearly imported into New Zealand for the purpose of renewing all classes of household plate. By re-plating these articles, new life is given to old and discarded dishes and ornaments. Remember, it will pay you and gratify you to have both silver and chromium plating introduced into your home. tArticle by Auckland Electro Plating Co. Ltd., 351 Queen Street, Auckland, C.I.
