BOOMS AND SLUMPS
Members of the Canterbury Chamber of Confmerce were amused to hear Professor A. H. Tocker describe in an address some of the effects of booms and slumps that had been discovered by research in America. During booms, he said, prices went up, there were fewer bankruptcies, more marriages, and church attendances decreased. During slumps prices fell, bankruptcies increased, there were fewer marriages, and church attendances were greater.
