Mr. Craig remarked on the strategic importance ol the '-anal to Groat Britain and said it was owing to Disraeli that F.ngla nd acquired shares in it. Mrs. \'ictor Mucky prosified over the meeting. which was held in the Milne and Choyoo Reception Hall. Other speakers were Mrs. A. Kipnis, of Chicago. I .S.A.. and Mr. Henry Lang, of Christehurch. Songs were, contributed by Mr. .1. Fit/,patrick. Miss Molly McCarthy being the accompanist. Ladv Wi1.,011 presented floral shoulder spravs to Mrs. Kipnis. Mrs. H. Y\ agner and Miss Molly McCarthy. Members of the committee present included Mrs. Rliot Davis, Mrs. Charles Martvn. -Mrs. G. T. Simpson. Mrs. A. F. O'Donoghue. Mrs. Archibald Bishop, |)r. Gladys Rowley, Mrs. H. i. Merritt, Mrs. Ramyond Sheath. Mrs. J. McKen/.ie Wilson and Mrs. G E. Anderson. Among the overseas and out-of-town guests were: —Madame M. Ouzel 7l'aris). Mrs. A. Ferguson (Australia 1 ), Mrs. M.
