DEFENCE

Sir, —Our Labour Cabinet strongly disapproves of compulsion where mili- > tary service is concerned, but accepts. compulsion in regard to trai]e unionism. 1 The Minister of Defence claims to have : completely reorganised tho Defence Forces of the Dominion. One has only to think of the King's Birthday parade on the Domain recently. If the school cadets (and our Government would do away with them) had not been present i there would not have been much to indicate success of reorganisation. Labour supporters affirm that political capital is made of tho dismissal of four colonels, but surely it is patent that the only way to do anything I adequate about defence is to change ; the Government. The Hon. Mr. Eraser j commends the attitude of Mr. Jordan i at Geneva regarding sanctions, but he I and his colleagues are not prepared to I do anything to make the implementing j of sanctions possible. E. B. Moohe.
