HEAVY FIRE LOSS
CHAIN STORE OUTBREAK much damage by water WHOLE STOCK SATURATED [by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION*] NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday Fire destroyed hundreds of pounds worth of stock at the New Plymouth branch of J. R- McKenzie, Limited, to-night. The fire damage was confined to storerooms upstairs, but practically the whole stock of the shop was saturated with water. Dense smoke was seen in King Street just after seven o'clock and two engines turned out. Leads were run to the front of the building in Devon Street and to the hack in King Street, but it was some time before the outbreak was quelled. . Details of the insurance issued by Lloyd's were not available to-night.
