SHINING HOURS CARRIES ON
Surprise victories by Sweet Rose in the Members* Handicap •find King Mestor in the Corunna Hurdles featured the second day's programme of the Wellington Racing Club's Winter Meeting at Trentham yesterday. Sweet Rose was the least supported of the thirteen runners and paid a dividend of over two score on the win machine. On the other hand, the public was well on the mark in most of the other races, favourites to win being Shining Hours, Great Pal and Kahunoke. The majority of the runners were completely beaten by the state of the going and many ran much below their real form. A true reflection of the state of the track can be gained from the times recorded. Quadroon required 2.29£ to run the mile and in the Parliamentary Handicap and the time is one of the slowest registered by a winner of an open handicap in the Dominion for many years. When Income won for the second year in succession in 1925, he ran 2.36J, and Coronetted took 2.33 2-5 in 1912. Other slow times recorded were Town Major's 2.25-4, in 1931 and High Pitch's 2.24, in 1929.
