GISBORNE FISHING

FINDINGS OF COMMITTEE [BY telegraph—OWN correspondent] GISBORNE, Thursday The findings of the Sea Fisheries Investigation Committee which sat in Gisborne during the summer have been received, and they presented a comprehensive survey of the fishing industry here, together with several recommendations. The report stated that the harbour facilities at Gisborne were excellent, and the Harbour Board offered every assistance to fishermen, including no charge on wharfage or dues. Four trawlers operated from the port, and tho total landings for the 193(5-37 period, the period reviewed by the committee, was 4219cwt. of fish.

The committee pointed out that there were no boats of the Danish seine typo in this port, and advised that the small tidal range made the grounds unsuitable for this type of fishing.
