MOUNT ALBERT BOROUGH
EXPENDITURE DURING .YEAR WORKS SCHEDULE ADOPTED A schedule of works to be undertaken in the Mount Albert borough in the ensuing year was adopted at a meeting of the council. Several months ago the council decided to spend £20,000, together with any subsidies that would be available, on capital works during the year. For loan works this year £.'51,172 will be available, £9172 of which it is estimated will be provided by Government subsidies. The chief item in the schedule is sewer construction, estimated to cost £13,785, of which £IO,OOO is to be provided by the council and the remaining amount by estimated subsidy. I The provision of concrete footpaths in the borough is estimated to cost the council £3375, with a £IOOO subsidy, while metalling and grouting will absorb £4893, with £387 as subsidy. Iverbing, channelling and road formation will cost £3BOO, the council allocating £I6OO of this sum, with £2200 as subsidy. Including £IOO in subsidy, surface scaling will cost £2223. lo carry out this programme it will be necessary to employ 50 regular men over the entire year, and a further 30 men will be engaged on a six-monthly basis. Tho Works ' Committee was commended by the Mayor, Mr. H. A. Anderson. on tho, manner in which it had framed the schedule. Ho said the council had given a lead for many yearn in employing a maximum number of men and creating an atmosphere of goodwill and co-operation in tho borough.
