An improvement of £4OOO in the finances of the "Wliangarei Harbour Board during the year was reported by the secretary, Mr. W. M. Fraser, at the meeting to-day. He stated that no land rate had been collected from the land in the harbour board area. Mr. Fraser added that it was anticipated the revenue of the port would continue to produce a surplus 6ver ordinary working costs sufficient to pay interest and redemption charges on the existing loans raised for harbour improvement works. The secretary also reported that during the year 686 vessels entered the port of Wliangarei, giving it fifth place in the Dominion as regards the number of ships entering and clearing. The cargo handled showed an increase. The figures were tons inward and 99,585 outward, an 'increase of 6732 tons and 6193 tons respectively.
