30 TONS CYLINDER

TRANSPORT UNDERTAKING [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] TAUBANGA, Friday A considerable amount of work was entailed at the railway wharf at Tauranga to-day in removing the Whakatane Paper Mills' 30-tons cylinder from the Clansman to a railway truck. The 40-ton crane required for the lift arrived here-yesterday, and was under the charge of Mr. H. A. Stevens, assistant-engineer of the Railways Department, Auckland. The strengthening of the railway wharf necessitated bracing with heavy ironbark beams to withstand the strain put upon it. For the transport of the cylinder by raiL to Whakatano a specially-constructea waggon, 2ft. 6in. wider than the standard waggon, had to be built. It is constructed of steel. The transport of the cylinder will be made by special traiji leaving here on Sunday morning. The speed will not exceed eight to ten miles an hour.
